Disabled Veteran Exception to Means Testing

Disabled veteran status is one of a handful of exceptions to the rule that consumer debtors who file for Chapter 7 are subject to means testing.  What many people do not know is that there is a safe harbor which extends 540 days following the debtor's discharge from active duty.  If you are a disabled veteran and your debts were incurred while on active duty or within 540 days of leaving active duty, you are not subject to means testing.
